  24. What do you mean by "hearing"? Do you want to just hear the connection
  25. protocol tones (until the modems connect) or do you want to hear the
  26. modem tones ALL THE TIME? I think the 1st option is best (the 2nd will
  27. drive you up the walls!).

  32. Most modems today have a small piezo speaker that let's you hear
  33. "what's going on" on the phone line until the modem connects.
  34. So here is a CHEAP and simple solution: Go to any stereo store in your
  35. area and get a pair of small in-ear headphones (you could get a small
  36. laper mic but thats more expensive. These earphones should cost about
  37. 2$). plug them  into your SB16 MIC input. Please note that the MIC
  38. input is MONO while the phones are STEREO, but that doesn't matter.
  39. Crank the MIC input sensitivity up, and click on both earphones. One
  40. of them should create a loud click. Take of it's sponge cover, Glue it
  41. with something (hot melt glue, contact cement, what have you) to that
  42. peizo speaker on your modem (I hope it's internal...) and that's it!
  43. You'll hear every beep that speaker makes!

  53. marble will suffice?...:-)
